OUR PHILOSOPHY
What We Believe
Since 1941, we’ve been welcoming kids to camp, and in that time, the world has changed quite a bit. Our philosophy and program, however, have remained much the same as when we first greeted campers all those years ago. Many of our traditions and activities are original to the way we’ve always done things here. We haven’t changed them because we believe our method works.
We still find that kids build character the same way they always have: by stepping outside their comfort zone, making real friends, trying new things, and being supported by people they trust. Those things are baked into everything we do here every day. In a world that keeps getting louder and more complicated, we think time at camp matters now more than ever.
Here are the core values that guide everything we do:
- We maintain a safe, caring environment where every child feels seen, secure, and appreciated for exactly who they are.
- We hand-pick staff who genuinely love this work and take seriously what it means to be someone a child looks up to.
- Our program is non-competitive. Every camper gets to succeed at their own pace, on their own terms.
- We give campers the chance to make real choices and develop the skills it takes to live and thrive in a community.
- We believe being outside in nature connects children to something bigger than they are and, in turn, brings a sense of wonder and appreciation.
- We help every child discover and take pride in their own unique strengths, talents, and interests, and to bring out the best in those around them.
- We believe the best learning happens by doing.
- We offer a screen-free, low-stress, genuinely fun experience that builds independence and lets kids be fully, completely kids.
Sending your child to camp for the first time is a big decision. We know that. What we’ve come to find, more often than not, is that the kid you pick up at the end of their session won’t be quite the same one you dropped off. A little more sure of themselves. A little more capable. Maybe with a new passion they didn’t know they had, or a friendship that lasts years. That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when kids are given the space, the support, and the opportunities that camp affords. We’d be honored to be part of that for your family.
