Friendly Pines Camp

Staff Application Process

1

Read the 2022 Cover Letter

Take a close look at each page of our staff cover letter, to make sure you're fully aware of everything involved with being a counselor at Friendly Pines Camp. The document covers a lot of information, from compensation, job requirements, and dates of employment. All counselor applicants MUST read this entire letter before applying!

2

Fill out an online Application

Create an account on CampBrain and select the appropriate application. For first-time counselors, the most appropriate application will likely be the "NEW Counselor Application for Summer 2022". Make sure you complete all sections and that it's properly submitted--you should receive a confirmation email if you did everything correctly. We won't be able to review any component of your app until it has been submitted and you've received that confirmation email!

3

COMPLETE A ONE-WAY RECORDED INTERVIEW

In addition to completing the application, counselor applicants will be required to submit a recorded one-way interview. You will use a service called Spark Hire; the link is in the application and also your application submission confirmation email. You can use their desktop site, or you can download and use their app on your mobile phone. The interview consists of just a few questions, and shouldn't take more than 20 minutes. In addition to a few other basic, get-to-know you questions, one of these questions will be for you to ‘teach us something’. It’s up to you what you want to teach, whether that be something like how to build a fire, a concept you learned in chemistry class, how to properly throw a football, or how to stand up on water skis, it’s up to you. We will simply be looking for people that are at least somewhat comfortable instructing others. You’ll have a certain time limit for each question, but you’ll be able to record the interview on your own time. Come prepared to answer the questions and record your lesson all at once.  Our expectation is that you treat this as you would a real interview; look presentable and give some thought to your answers.

4

GIVE A HEADS UP TO YOUR THREE REFERENCES

During your online application, you will be asked to provide contact info (email addresses are most important, please!) for three people who we can contact to give a recommendation on behalf of you. After reviewing your application & deciding to proceed with the process with you, *FPC* will send an email to these three references with a link to an online recommendation form. After you submit your application, it's a good idea to reach out to the three people you provided contact info for to give them a heads up that someone from Friendly Pines might be reaching out to them, and the decision to be asked to live interview won't be made until all references are submitted! (FPC will let you know know if we haven't heard from someone and may ask you to provide an alternate reference)

5

Invitation to Interview

(if we decide to continue with your application)

After all three references have submitted the form we send them, we may reach out to you via email to set up a time to do a live interview. We'll send a link for you to pick a convenient time and date to meet via Zoom with one of our directors.  BEFORE YOUR INTERVIEW DATE, you'll be asked to read and send back our Staff Expectations Agreement--make sure you do this ASAP, as we won't be able to interview until the form has been signed and returned!

6

The Live Interview

Typically, the live interview will last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. We may record the interview to review later. Please show up promptly and dressed appropriately! Though working as a counselor is a fun summer job, the expectation is that you take all aspects of the application process seriously and act professionally. Be sure to come to the interview with your own questions--we'll cover a lot of information but it's important to get your own questions about working at FPC answered!

7

The Job Offer

Should FPC deem you a good fit after you've completed all of these steps, we will send you a job offer email. You'll want to make sure to read the entire thing so you can know your assigned activity position as well as your start and end dates. After you accept, you will start receiving regular communication from FPC to continue the onboarding process and get you completely ready for camp!

(If at any point in the application cycle we decide not to continue with your application, we will send an email letting you know!)
